Joonhyoung “Ben” Kim

Joonhyoung “Ben” Kim, from Seoul, South Korea, is a senior at Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts, and at Juilliard Pre-College in New York City. He studies piano under Professor Julian Martin. He won top prizes at national and international competitions, including 1st place finishes at the Hartford Chopin International Competition and International Grande Music Competition and a special award at the Claudette Sorel Piano Competition. An alumnus of the Music Academy for Talented Youth at Seoul Arts Center, where he studied for six years, Ben has appeared with the Korean Chamber Orchestra, Kazan Chamber Orchestra at the opening ceremony at the Gwangju Universiade 2015, and Pan Asia Philharmonia. He has also performed at Aspen Music Festival (Harris Hall), which he attended in 2019, and Seoul Arts Center’s Recital Hall.

Ben is the assistant conductor of Milton’s Chamber Orchestra, a charter volunteer of the Music Inclusion Program (a partnership project between Milton Academy and the Henderson Inclusion School), and an editor of the schoolwide STEM publication, Helix. He enjoys playing soccer and ultimate frisbee with his dorm-mates (to whom he is affectionately referred to as “Mistah Kim”). Aside from classical, he loves K-pop and jazz; he even appeared with Milton’s jazz band!
